Derek has been building scribe-fit log homes since 1978. An owner/builder, he personally combs forests to select each tree. He selects them piece by piece in the landing; again in his yard after they are hand peeled, washed and preserved; and finally as each log is used. This personal attention and dedication is applied to all aspects of the design/build/service process.
Noticeably unusual are the appearance and color of the logs in a Modern log home. Naturally they are light, bright pine. Unless you choose to darken them, they will retain this naturally bright, clean look. Your log home does not have to be dark, mottled, brown, orange, dreary, boring or stained.
Also unusual in the log home industry is Derek's extensive experience with the preservation and maintenance of log homes. This enables Modern Log Homes to design and build homes that are low maintenance and safe from attack by insects and wood destroying fungi.
A highly skilled and experienced group of craftsmen build a select handful of fine homes each year. Typical homes are in the 2,500 to 4,000 square feet range.
